Seit 1962 begeistert Knies Kinderzoo in Rapperswil Generationen von kleinen und grossen Tierfreunden. Als Teil der traditionsreichen Knie-Familie schaffen wir einen Ort, an dem Menschen Tiere aus nächster Nähe erleben und gleichzeitig deren Lebensräume und Artenvielfalt besser verstehen können.
Unter unserem Leitgedanken «Tiere erfahren. Biodiversität bewahren.» verbinden wir unvergessliche Tiererlebnisse mit einem klaren Engagement für Natur- und Artenschutz. Begegnungen mit Tieren fördern Verständnis, Respekt und Verantwortung – Werte, die wir täglich an unsere Besucherinnen und Besucher weitergeben.
Ob Familienausflug, Schulreise oder besonderer Anlass – Knies Kinderzoo bietet einzigartige Erlebnisse, bei denen das Wohl der Tiere stets im Mittelpunkt steht. Moderne und naturnah gestaltete Anlagen ermöglichen spannende Einblicke in das Leben verschiedenster Tierarten und schaffen Raum für Lernen, Staunen und Entdecken.

Building volunteer teams
Knies Kinderzoo is a zoological facility in Rapperswil with around 400 animals of over 45 species. The zoo has been offering a close-up animal experience for young and old since 1962. Knies Kinderzoo and Knies Zauberhut belong to Gebrüder Knie, Schweizer National-Circus AG.
To support us, we are in the process of setting up a
Volunteer teams
for the following tasks:
- Incoming inspection and reception
- information person at the zoo entrance, on the zoo grounds and in Knies Zauberhut
- Supervision and information in the human-animal contact zone with the goats
- Support with riding activities
- Operation of the information locations
- Support for zoo activities, events and workshops
You:
- are at least 18 years old
- enjoy animals and zoo operations
- appreciate the contact with people
- are willing to work irregular shifts, especially at weekends, on public holidays and during school vacations
- are balanced and resilient

National Future Day
As a traditional family business, we organise the national Future Day in the original sense and enable the family members of our employees to experience their everyday working life at first hand. Interested young people from the age of 14 are given this opportunity during a taster week.
Introductory Week at Knies Kinderzoo Latest Information
Due to the very high demand for internship opportunities and the great interest in the animal care technician EFZ apprenticeship (starting in summer 2027), all internship positions for this year have already been filled.

For over five decades, Knies Kinderzoo has been one of the most popular leisure facilities in eastern Switzerland for young and old alike. It is impossible to imagine the town of Rapperswil-Jona and the Lake Zurich region without this world of adventure. At the same time, Knies Kinderzoo successfully combines its long-standing tradition with contemporary innovations. The new "Himmapan" elephant park is impressive proof of this. This major project - the largest in the history of Knies Kinderzoo - successfully continues the Knie family's passion for elephants and its 90-year tradition. On the one hand, the unique elephant enclosure is a clear commitment to the conservation of this highly endangered species; on the other, it will make the gentle giants happy and bring a sparkle to children's eyes. St.Galler Kantonalbank is delighted to be a mammoth partner of the new elephant park. The partnership between Knies Kinderzoo and St.Galler Kantonalbank is based on shared values such as tradition and regional ties.

With the innovative educational system at Knies Kinderzoo , Energie 360° enables them and their parents to learn about numerous animal species and breeds at 20 learning stations with a five-level info pyramid. To ensure that the children of today can still live in an intact environment tomorrow, Knies Kinderzoo and Energie 360° are also breaking new ground with their energy concept: they are using the water of the Obersee as an energy source for heating and hot water. In this way, Knies Kinderzoo saves 100,000 liters of heating oil per year - as a contribution to sustainable development.
